The 2023 ESOMAR elections for Council have officially opened.
Members have from now until 10th March to cast their vote - you can read more here:
There’s a whole bunch of interesting candidates putting themselves forward for these unpaid positions…. for the greater good of the industry. As per normal - so what’s new?
COUNTER APATHY - AND VOTE!
These elections are particularly important - they’re a re-run of the previous ones in Q4 2022, which were annulled.
For those of you who followed the whole thing: a disturbing episode - and one that seemingly hasn’t been resolved yet.
Given this - it’s tempting to become disillusioned, and maybe not vote at all.
I know I have certainly been tempted.
But it’s really important that those of us that can vote put aside our doubts and make our voices heard.
ESOMAR lives (and dies) from the energy and goodwill of its members - including those willing to step up for the public spectacle of getting voted in, or not.
It can be painful - I stood for Council a couple of years ago, didn’t make the cut - and it hurt.
So all the more kudos to those brave people putting their names and faces forward.
And finally - if my memory serves me correctly, voting participation historically for these ESOMAR elections haven’t been stellar - 10% is the number I have in my mind from one discussion a few weeks ago.
Not good. Imagine that was the case for a political election - indicates that the democratic engagement process isn’t really working.
Well - here’s our chance to lean forward.
A few clicks will do it. And spread the word - in your own network, on Social Media, in your companies. It doesn’t take long, and costs nothing.
Good luck to everyone standing - and here’s to a robust and energised ESOMAR future.
Curious, as ever, as to others’ views.

Thank you for your support Ed, although I think voting numbers have improved with recent efforts, 'your organisation needs you'!
